The Bureau was established in the Oxford area in 1962 by George Pulley, on his retirement as Acting Superintendent from the Oxford City Police. His 27 year career with the Police included a lengthy period in the Criminal Investigation Department, involving him in many murder and large scale cases, including the prevention of the kidnapping of Lord Nuffield.
His son, also George, then joined the Bureau in the late 1960's, benefiting from his father's experience and took over the business in the 1970's. Mr Pulley was educated at Oxford. He was a member of the Association of British Investigators, I.K.D. (Internationale Kommission der Detektive-Verbande) and World Investigators Network.
He retired in April 2002 and handed over to Nick O'Keeffe who ran the Oxford Detective Bureau together with Stella Kenrick for 10 years. In 2005 Mr. O'Keeffe was honoured by his peers by being voted Association of British Investigators ‘Investigator Of The Year’. Stella Kenrick was also voted ‘Investigator Of The Year’ at the World Investigators Network Conference in Boston in May 2011.
In early 2012 Nick O'Keeffe handed over to Tom Mouat MBE and Kiera Bentley MABI, but remains very much part of the business in the background providing his wealth of experience and expertise in support of the business. Kiera Bentley is a Qualified Professional Private Investigator (as per upcoming SIA Licensing Legislation) EDI Level 3.
Work in other areas of the country and worldwide are all accessible to the Bureau by means of inter agent co-operation through professional bodies such as The A.B.I., W.A.P.I and W.I.N.
